Sept. 8, 2020 – With three weeks to go until RVT Month, Canada’s RVT Month Task Force is proud to debut the all-new RVT Month app.
In light of the impact COVID-19 has had on veterinary medicine (i.e. curbside pickups, limiting clients inside buildings, etc.), as well as the continued recommendations around physical distancing, the RVT Month app is replacing the physical RVT Month Kits that were sent to clinics and workplaces in previous years.
Canada’s RVT associations (ABVTA, ATSAQ, BCVTA, EVTA, MVTA, OAVT, RVTTC, SAVT) have worked together to create a one-stop-shop for RVT Month, allowing RVTs, employers and members of the public to take part in RVT Month…right at their fingertips!
The RVT Month app was built as a progressive web app. This means that it can also be accessed as a website on your computer at www.rvtmonth.ca – but keep in mind it was designed to look great on a mobile device, so mobile users will have the most seamless experience. As a progressive app, this also means that you do not need to download the app from the App Store or Google Play. Benefits to this include: not taking space up on your phone, not receiving “push notifications”, and not ever having to update the app as the app will automatically update itself when changes are made or new content is added.
Speaking of content: the RVT Month Task Force will continue to add more content to the app throughout September and October. RVTs can create a login for additional features, including an “Events & Contests” section. As more contests become available, we will add them to this section of the app.
Another highlight of the RVT Month app is the “Thank an RVT” message board, for clients to thank RVTs for the work that they do. Encourage clients to go to www.rvtmonth.ca to leave messages for their favourite RVTs, and RVTs can check out the board to see all of the love that the profession is receiving across the country.
For RVTs, clinics and organizations looking to promote RVT Month, a nice feature of the app is being able to share content directly to your social media feeds, including Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn.
And now for the important part – how to get the app onto your phone or tablet. It takes less than a minute!
Step 1. Open the internet browser on your smart phone or tablet, and go to www.RVTMonth.ca
Step 2. Save the app to your home screen.
For Apple products (iPhones, iPads) – press the icon and press “Add to Home Screen”
For Android phones or tablets – press the three lines icon and press “Add page to” to select “Add to home screen” OR press the three dots icon and press “Add to Home screen”
Step 3. Browse the app! If you are an RVT, be sure to sign-up and login to the app to get access to additional content and materials.
Please encourage clients and coworkers to check out the app. Sharing the content from within the app will help educate the public about the RVT profession, and will give clients and employers an avenue to thank RVTs for the important work that they do.
