Position Summary
The Cardiology Registered Veterinary Technologist (RVT) is empowered and responsible to act as a highly trained RVT on the clinical floor to set an example of patient care, client care, and teamwork at Pulse Veterinary Specialists & Emergency.
The Cardiology RVT will report to the Lead Specialty RVT and work closely with Dr. Hawkes to deliver high level patient care.

This role will allow for a compressed work week with 2 10-hour shifts, Monday and Tuesday, with the potential to pick-up extra overtime shifts.
Duties and Responsibilities
o Performs all technical responsibilities of a RVT including:
o Usage and care of medical equipment, as well as sterilization techniques.
o Placing IV catheters; calculating drug doses, fluid requirements and CRIs.
o Understanding higher risk anesthesia for the cardiac patient, ventilator setup, direct arterial pressure monitoring and monitoring of the cardiac patient.
o Rhythm monitoring and identification of a rhythm that requires intervention.
o Performing CPR and set up and use of a defibrillator.
o Producing diagnostic quality radiographs.
o Understanding and assisting with advanced diagnostics including echocardiograms, fluoroscopy, diagnostic ECGs, Holter monitoring and telemetry.
o Set up of the OR for interventional procedures and pressure injector setup for angiography.
o Managing hospitalized patients, performing recovery care and assisting with specialized treatments (e.g. cardiac catheterization, pacemakers).
o Provides education, home care instructions, and nutritional counseling to customers.
o General supervision of Technologist Assistant (TA) team members.
o Provides support and enhances the educational experience of senior year veterinary students, interns, and residents.
o Supports management of customer complaints as required in partnership with the Lead Specialty RVT and Hospital Manager, interacting with clientele to deescalate, resolve, and/or escalate issues in a timely fashion.
o Maintains practice software including client and patient record management.
o Follows all SOPs to support smooth hospital operations.
o Follows all federal and provincial animal health laws and regulations regarding workplace health and safety.
o Openly and proactively communicates updates to DVMs, Lead Specialty RVT and other department team members. Prioritize interdepartmental synergy by maintaining open lines of communication with other departments.
o Other duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will have:
Education and Experience
· Animal Health Technology college diploma.
· Previous RVT experience is preferred.
