The Role

The Feedlot Nutrition Consultant & Technical Specialist provides nutritional advice, management solutions, and service support to our progressive Feedlot customers. This role is accountable for developing and managing individual customer accounts and building customer loyalty through the consultative selling approach while providing strong technical support to the Bullseye Consultant team. As part of the Bullseye sales team, you will be an active team player who is engaged in supporting the company’s vision and growth objectives.

 

Primary Roles and Responsibilities 

  • Work directly with progressive feedlot operations to provide leading-edge, customized nutritional solutions and value-based management services. You are the consultant.
  • Using a consultative selling process, manage direct accounts so that you are the number one value contributor to each customer’s business
    Create and implement initiatives to drive the development of new business through exclusive nutritional and service offerings
  • Stay up to date on industry trends/technology to understand the context of the evolving fields of beef nutritional research, management practices, applications and approaches
  • Apply working knowledge of commercial feedlot practices, forage quality/management, and beef growth-enhancing technologies (i.e. implants, feed additives, etc.) to facilitate the development and communication of customers’ annual business plans/strategies
  • Conduct feedlot audits, read feed bunks, diagnose existing challenges, evaluate feedlot close-out and carcass data, and suggest proactive options to improve feedlot performance
  • Be prepared to lead individual field-based projects that bring value and innovation to customers
  • Represent the Bullseye brand  in a professional manner at industry trade shows, conferences, and scientific meetings.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with other industry participants, including veterinarians, financial institutions, feed additive suppliers and pharmaceutical manufacturers
  • Other duties as required and assigned

Skills & Experience Required

  • Positive attitude with outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to create satisfied internal and external customers
  • Strong verbal communication skills with the flexibility, diplomacy and adaptability to work with various personality types
  • Advanced understanding of ruminant nutrition and beef management practices with an ability to advance these skills through a continuous learning process
  • Positive, self-motivated and goal-oriented team player who is open to learning, challenging and improving
  • Working knowledge of forage and forage production systems
    Strong time management and organizational skills
  • Display honesty, integrity and a strong sense of ethics in all decisions and actions
  • Possess the consultative selling skills required to sell and service beef producers
  • Resourceful with strategic and analytical capabilities (knowledge of SAS and JMP would be beneficial)
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills and the ability to establish/maintain effective relationships with coworkers and customers
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently and as part of the Bullseye team; you believe in making others more successful
  • Flexible, adaptable and able to thrive in a fast-paced and ever-changing environment

Qualifications include

  • Background in the Canadian beef industry, including experience in the feedlot segment
  • Cow/calf and feedlot industry experience essential
  • Working knowledge of the Canadian/North American beef processing industry beneficial (a general understanding of meat product slaughtering and processing)
  • Agricultural sales experience
  • Beef ration balancing expertise with the ability to adjust ration recommendations accordingly
  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Role Location

Expected to reside within an area allowing easy access to business facilities, beef consultants and customers (ideally, southern Alberta)
