The Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) is excited to announce we’re celebrating our first Radiation Safety Week, running November 8 – 14th.
With increasing caseloads and staffing challenges, our personal radiation safety may not always be top of mind. Veterinary professionals are too often directly exposed to radiation on a daily basis.
This year’s theme, My Safety is Justifiable, reminds veterinary technologists and their teams to keep their safety a top priority while keeping their patients safe and comfortable when managing diagnostic imaging.
Let’s work together to reduce occupational radiation exposure of veterinary professionals through innovation and education.
During Radiation Safety Week, the ABVTA will be hosting two webinars.
November 10, 2021 – Increasing Radiation Safety for Veterinary Teams (7-8:30p.m. via Zoom)
November 14, 2021 – Basics of Hands-Free Techniques (7-8:30p.m. via Zoom)
These webinars are complimentary for all ABVTA members; however, all members of the veterinary team are welcome and encouraged to attend.
The ABVTA has also developed a digital Radiation Safety Kit, available to everyone. This kit includes the 2021 Radiation Safety Week Poster, Radiation Safety and Positioning Guide from Hands Free X-Rays.
A photo contest will also be held during November in the ABVTA member Facebook Group, Alberta RVTs, for RVTs celebrating radiation safety. Participants in the contest will be entered into a draw to win one of two starter packages from Hands Free X-Rays. Attendees from the two webinars will also be entered to win one of the starter packages.
Members are welcome and encouraged to order Radiation Safety Week member packs to share with their team. Each pack includes one sticker, one static cling, and a lanyard (up to a maximum of 3 per pack). Please order your member pack on the ABVTA Member Portal. Packs are limited, so please order early.
To order your package, please login to your ABVTA Member Portal, then navigate to ‘Forms’ on the toolbar to complete your order form. Please note, the deadline to order is November 5th, 2021.
