About The ABVTA
The Alberta Veterinary Technologist Association (ABVTA) is dedicated to advancing and advocating for Registered Veterinary Technologists (RVTs) in Alberta.
We empower RVTs through education, leadership, and collaboration, strengthening the veterinary profession and supporting lifelong career growth and sustainability.
As highly skilled and essential members of veterinary teams, RVTs play a critical role in animal health, patient care, client education, and animal welfare. Through advocacy, professional development, and strong community support, we work to ensure RVTs receive the recognition, resources, and opportunities they need to thrive.

- Increased public understanding of the RVT role.
- Legislation that enables RVTs to become independent operators and entrepreneurs.
- Clarity on the RVT scope of practice and its impact on access to veterinary care.
- Workplaces that prioritize health, safety, inclusivity, and professional recognition for RVTs.
- Growth
Sustained growth ensures we can continue serving our members effectively. We embrace a growth mindset by: -
- Adapting to the evolving needs of RVTs.
- Maintaining a balanced and sustainable revenue model.
- Strengthening governance and leadership that reflects diverse perspectives and empowers our members.
- Leadership
We are shaping the future of the profession by: -
- Being recognized internationally as a leader in veterinary technology.
- Fostering an association that is a desirable place to work and volunteer, where engagement is valued and rewarded.
These efforts drive meaningful progress for RVTs and work to shape a sustainable and thriving future for the profession.
