Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Communicate compassionately and professionally with clients and fellow veterinary care team members using efficient oral and written skills.
  • Cultivate and support a collaborative work environment and assist other staff members as required.
  • Administer and analyze diagnostic tests (hematology, clinical chemistry, cytology, urinalysis, etc.) utilizing appropriate equipment and techniques.
  • Assist veterinarians with surgical and therapeutic procedures. Utilize gold-standard patient care techniques with all stages of care.
  • Knowledgeably administer and monitor anesthesia and analgesia during procedures, in communication with veterinarians.
  • Ensure the operating room environment, equipment and supplies comply with aseptic standards and protocols. Support and educate Vet Assistants to ensure they are also well-versed in these areas.
  • Provide excellent veterinary nursing care professionally and ethically, including Fear Free techniques
  • Document and maintain accurate veterinary medical records and procedural log books daily.
  • Operate and maintain state-of-the-art veterinary medical equipment, following health and safety regulations, with current and detailed maintenance logs.
  • Execute and evaluate quality diagnostic images utilizing knowledge of theory, principles and concepts.
  • Perform dental procedures and radiographs, employing an in-depth knowledge of dental structures, conditions and lesions, causes and stages of diseases.
  • Maintain an appropriate inventory of all medical supplies as determined by veterinary office inventory control procedures.
  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment, engaging team members to maximize efficiency and effectiveness.
  • All duties will be performed in accordance with provincial laws governing the veterinary and RVT profession.
